2012 will be the 6th year for the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown club lacrosse team.
For the past few years, they have had a 16-guy roster, but this year they will be stepping up to 33. They play in the NCLL in the keystone conference.
Because they wanted this year to be different, they not only changed their uniforms, but also changed their mascot from the NCAA Mountain Cats, to the Pitt-Johnstown Laxcats. Take a gander:
The team is hoping to get more recognition on their small 3,100 student campus, and they feel that standing out with new shooters and shorts will do the trick!
ProAthletics did an excellent job with their designs and really turned them into a work of art. The inspiration came after Pitt played Frostburg last season and saw their ProAthletics jerseys. Each player paid for their own shooter and pair of shorts which are fully sublimated custom jerseys with our name and number. Even the script Pitt font has been updated with a lacrosse ball and head.
Matt reports that in just a few hours of wearing this across campus, more and more people realized they have a lacrosse team at UPJ. “It’s a good feeling,” Matt says, “because now we expect our fundraisers and philanthropic work with HEADstrong will get a huge response.” We hope it will.
UPJ will open up the year at Frostburg State (MD) on February 28th. They have a 12-game schedule including Slippery Rock, PITT, IUP, Lock Haven, Penn State-Altoona, St. Francis, Frostburg, Liberty U and Bloomsburg.
Look for the Laxcats this season to make a splash, not only with their uniforms, but with their new attitude.
