The US Lacrosse Convention wasn’t the only thing going on in the lacrosse world this weekend. On the other side of the country, in beautiful Palm Springs, California, Synapse Sports and LaxWest hosted the annual Sandstorm tournament.
The event was hosted at the Empire Polo Club, as in players were strapping up their Nikes to run on the same grass usually trampled on by horseshoes. The venue was as beautiful as the weather, and the level of play was pretty high too.
Although the event was primarily a girls lacrosse tournament with over 90 girls teams representing, almost 50 boys teams of all different age groups and skill levels were in attendance too. This included five All West Elite teams who used the Sandstorm tourney as the culmination of their 2011-2012 travel campaign. I was proud to be at the event representing this Bay Area program as a coach. If you live in the Bay Area and you’re in grades 5-9, this is the team you should try out for at the end of this month.
