Astroturf is green. It looks like grass, and is just plain old strange when it’s any other color. Boise State’s smurf turf is one exception to the rule, and now it looks like we’ve found another caveat. For box lacrosse, purple turf is just plain old awesome!
The purple turf can be found at the Cattaraugus Community Center, which is located in Irving, NY. The photos come from the Upstate Bears Lacrosse Invititational, a new box lacrosse tournament run by, you guessed it, the Upstate Bears (MILA). The Syracuse Stingers (Independent/PLL team, led by the one and only Neal Powless) and the Niagara Lock Monsters (CLAX) also came to play, and from the looks of things, this tourney has a very bright future.
Good luck to all three of these teams this year in their respective leagues, and maybe LAS will bring a team up to play next Winter? It looks like a blast!
