Editor’s Note: With summer well underway, we wanted to up your weekly dosage of music, so we decided to double our music offering to you. Each Monday, Michael Allen will take the morning detail, and Nate Fritts will continue to knock out the night hours. Everybody wins!

Thanks for tuning into another edition of Music Monday.  This week I’ve chosen a few songs both new and old with prominent samples.  I find samples to be an interesting way to find new music and learn about an artists’ influences as well as adding a new twist to something old.

Emilio Rojas Ft. Chris Webby – Seek You Out

This song caught my attention because of the sample from Blue Foundation’s “Eyes On Fire”. Emilio Rojas and Chris Webby take the sample to the next level with this dark introspective song. where the two trade bars about their lives and mistakes along the way. I love the crossover of genres and think it makes for a great track.

Hoodie Allen – Tighten Up

Hoodie Allen has been doing his thing for a while now and if you haven’t given him a listen by now, it’s time to do so.  This track from the New York artist samples a pretty familiar song, “Tighten Up” by The Black Keys. Also, Hoodie will be dropping his acoustic project tomorrow (August 13th) entitled Americoustic.

Rakim – When I B On Tha Mic

This track from Rakim aka The God MC is sample heavy featuring samples from Run-DMC, The Artistics, and M.O.P.  While Rakim makes up half of the golden age hip-hop duo, Eric B. & Rakim, he is still regarded as one of the most  influential and skilled MCs of all time.  Rakim mixed with DJ Premier on the beat makes for a perfect sound.
